Cynicism over coffee
I had two hours to kill, sitting at the farthest corner
Of a chic little coffee house in the heart of the city
Subtle modern music, waiters in matching attires
Vintage furniture with soft warm lighting
Elaborate menus with barely a whole number pricing
An ambiance of casual luxury to excuse 15 min or more of wait time
The strongest Espresso for a tired corporate junkie
Powering through the day, from what seems like an all-nighter
Cappuccinos with hearts made out in creme
For the teen lovers lost in conversation
Creamiest Lattes for the girl gang of five
Perfect photo prop for can-dids and plan-dids
And a few other takes in the making
Mocha for the lady in red
Americano for the gentleman in a tie
And a swirly Frappé for their 8 year old
"What would you have ma'am?"
"Emm, tepid water please?"
"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am we only have bottled."
A dollar and fifty.
