Indifference
When dimly lit WhatsApp screens that once hosted
Late night conversations and unsaid confessions
Now make your eyes droop at a loss of words
And you struggle to salvage a lost momentum
Fits of anger and floods of ugly words
In what was once raging wars of texts
Now become disenchanted graveyards
Of lukewarm hi’s and meaningless how are you’s
Good nights come early
And good mornings every other day
And then to blatant wishes and forward messages
Just on special occasions like birthdays and Christmas
As though some ceremonial obligation
When everything reduces to just hearts and likes
On conversations and pictures
And you stop caring to know them
Beyond what they dare to show
It’s poetic when love turns to hate
Because the thought of them haunts you occasionally
But what happens when love turns to indifference?
